THE PRIMO TOP DECK ROBOT

The Primo Top Deck robot consists of the Primo robot chassis, with a long pins underneath style Arduino UNO plugged in on top.

PRIMO TOP DECK PARTS LIST

This fantastic robot is what we recommend schools build in their extra curricular robotics programmes, because it is slightly easier to build with an inexperienced instructor and there's a reduced risk of the trainees accidentally ruining the chip because it's already safely mounted onto the Arduino UNO that plugs on top.

Another advantage of building the Arduino UNO is the rugged USB programming cable, which you may recognise as a common USB printer type cable.

The USB adapter chip is already on the UNO and it is generally quite reliable, with no tricky installation of Windows drivers required as with the FDTI type USB adapter or the CH340 type cables which give beginners plenty of hard times.

This robot programs just as easily as programming an Arduino UNO - simply go to the "TOOLS" menu and select "Arduino UNO" and the COM port that the robot is connected to.

If you are unsure which COM port the PRIMO TOP DECK robot is attached to then go to Windows DEVICE MANAGER and open the COM and LPT port list and look at which COM port vanishes when you plug and unplug the download cable from your computer. Remember that the USB cable needs to be plugged into the Arduino UNO on the robot for this trick to work.
